Biography

Helena Margareta Maier is a lyrical coloratura soprano.

In November 2023, Helena Margareta made her debut as Gretel in Engelbert Humperdinck's popular opera Hänsel und Gretel with the Forstinninger Solisten-Ensemble.

During the 2022/2023 season, Helena was a permanent member of the ensemble at the Mannheim Touring Opera. Here, she captivated audiences across Germany in children's operas, shone in roles such as Pamina, Papagena, Despina, and more, and gained great recognition for her versatile performances.

In July 2021, Helena performed at the E-Werk Freiburg with the Community Opera Freiburg in the world premiere of the contemporary opera Fliegende Bauten. She portrayed the role of Frau Müller, the opera’s sole soloist, who guided the story in collaboration with the choir.

Helena made her debut as Papagena in August 2019 at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden with the DLS Music Academy.

Studies: Helena began her musical studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London, from 2009 to 2011, under the renowned Scottish soprano Nan Christie, with whom she continues to work until today.

From 2012 to 2016, she completed her Bachelor's degree in Opera and Concert Singing with Angela Nick at the Freiburg University of Music.

From 2017 to summer 2019, Helena studied privately with Fenna Kügel-Seifried at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts.

Even during her studies, she regularly participated in opera productions, including performances with Opera Gold London, the Freiburg Institute for Music Theatre, and the Freiburg City Theatre.

In the concert field, Helena has graced the stages of the Freiburg Concert Hall, the Mozart Festival in Bad Krozingen, the Freiburg Chamber Music Festival, and the HIDALGO Song Festival in Munich.

Scholarships and Masterclasses: Helena is a scholarship holder of the Richard Wagner Association and enriched her artistic development with insights from renowned personalities such as Barbara Bonney and Sebastian Hamann.

Childhood by Lake Constance: Helena Margareta spent her formative years in Salem by Lake Constance. She attended the Freie Waldorfschule Überlingen for 13 years, where her love for music and singing took root, thanks to the school's emphasis on art and music.
